Trip to Alberta for Christmas, 2008
Mike and I visited Alberta from December 22nd to December 29th this Christmas. It was COLD, but we still managed to do and see a lot. And Mike got his wish of a white Christmas - in fact it was the first time since 1971 that all of Canada had a white Christmas. On the 22nd we went to the Edmonton Oilers hockey game versus the Phoenix Coyotes (the Oilers even won!). We also visited the Alberta Art Gallery and saw some exhibits dedicated to hockey. On the 23rd we went Christmas tree hunting on the farm where we trudged through deep snow in search of the perfect tree. On the 24th we got up early (4am!!) and headed to Banff with Peter and Carson to ski at Sunshine Village for the day. That night we stayed in Banff where we found a nice pub with good poutine and fish'n'chips, and then we went to the Banff Hotsprings to warm up and relax. On Christmas Day we headed to Lake Louise Ski Resort for another full day of skiing and even more spectacular vistas! Not to mention much longer (and tougher!) runs. We celebrated Christmas on the 26th and 27th after Katie came home. During the remainder of the time we walked and quadded around the farm, went tobogganing, chopped and gathered firewood, and ate waaaay too much delicious food! All in all, it was a great trip!
